2023 Deviation Series Release

  • The Glass Jug Beer Lab 5410 North Carolina 55, Suite V Durham, NC, 27713 United States (map)

As the weather cools, it is time to pull some of our Deviation Imperial Stouts from their barrels where they have been resting for many months and release them along with our fresh 2023 iteration.

On Friday, 11/10/23, we will be kicking off our season of Deviation with the following releases:

Standard Deviation (cans & draft)
Our tried and true imperial stout. Clocking in at 10% ABV, pouring a deep black, this full-bodied decadent stout is luxurious with notes of smooth chocolate, freshly roasted coffee, and whole-grain bread. A long lingering finish is both sweet and warming.

Rye Deviation (draft only)
In partnership with the Bull City Bourbon Club, we were able to secure a freshly dumped barrel of Traverse City Single Barrel Barrel-Proof Rye Whiskey, which we immediately filled with Standard Deviation last winter. As the beer matured in the barrel, it picked up some amazing rye whiskey notes of baking spice, vanilla, and some lovely oak undertones. It's also now up to 13% ABV as it soaked in the last of the whiskey from the wet barrel staves.

2022 Bourbon Barrel-Aged German Chocolate Cake Deviation (Draft + limited 500ml bottles)
We saved one keg from last year's barrel-aged release. We added Madagascar vanilla beans, toasted coconut, and cocoa nibs from Escazu Chocolate, then aged it for several months in Pinhook Bourbon barrels. More toasted coconut was added after barrel-aging to create a smooth and luxurious stout that is truly a dessert in a glass.

This is just the first release of our 2023 Deviation series. Be on the lookout for a couple additional Deviation releases on Black Friday, including the return of our annual favorite Coffee Deviation!
