Bartender (RTP)

We are currently accepting applications for part-time bartenders for our RTP brewery & bottle shop. To apply, please email a cover letter and resume to michael@glass-jug.com and katy@glass-jug.com.

The Glass Jug is currently accepting applications for a part-time bartender for our brewery taproom located in the RTP/South Durham area!

At The Glass Jug Beer Lab, our primary purpose is to Foster Joyful Community. We do that by choosing to:

  • Be mindfully welcoming to all people through friendliness and compassion.

  • Build excitement around our community through enthusiasm and curiosity.

We are passionate about fostering a joyful, diverse community within our own team and in our neighborhoods. If you’re looking for a work environment that is a little different from the norm, where you are willing to practice the self-discipline of placing these priorities in the focus of your day-to-day life, we want to meet you!

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Make everyone feel welcome and comfortable while at The Glass Jug

  • Serve draft beer and wine

  • Stock inventory and organize merchandise, apparel, and to-go beer on a daily basis

  • Help guests make purchasing choices for on- and off-premise consumption

  • Change kegs, clean draft lines, and update menus

  • Help ensure a safe environment for all guests and staff

  • Fill growlers & crowlers

  • Follow and properly execute cleaning/sanitation protocols

  • Other duties as assigned

Applicants often wonder what the difference is between working at our RTP location as compared to our Downtown Durham location.

  • Downtown Durham is primarily a family friendly, daytime/evening heavy bar. We primarily sell beverages sold for on-site consumption. There is a big variation between really quiet days and insanely busy days. We have more opportunity for training people who are a good cultural fit without as much experience in this setting. Being a self-starter who can keep themselves busy is a must.

  • RTP is more steadily busy all the time, and, because of our high volume bottle shop, we have higher expectations for beer knowledge out of the gate. Bartenders in RTP also have a strong retail aspect to their work, and the space is a lot more to keep up with, because we have guests on our front patio, in the bar, in our private event space, and in our beer garden.

If you're not sure which location would be a better fit for you, feel free to apply to both and let us know. You can see all open job positions on our website at glass-jug.com/jobs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Age: 21 or older

  • We are only considering applicants with experience bartending, working in retail, and/or waiting tables.

  • A base level knowledge of craft beer is a firm requirement. Knowledge of the NC craft beer industry and Cicerone Certified Beer Server certifications are a bonus.

  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Positive outlook on life and ability to build a good vibe, even in stressful situations

  • Flexible schedule (evenings, weekends, and some holidays required)

  • Ability to lift 60 pounds unassisted and stand for extended periods of time

  • Ability to move 160-pound kegs with the assistance of a teammate/hand truck

  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Pass background check (Please let us know if you anticipate things popping up that you’d like to give us context to better understand. We’re reasonable people who believe in second chances.)

  • Valid driver's license or other means of reliable transportation to work

SCHEDULE:

  • Night and weekend availability required for most bartenders

  • Some day shifts available

  • Closers will likely be needed until around 11pm Mon-Wed and around 12am Thurs-Sat.

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS:

We believe one piece of building community is creating happiness. We want every person who walks through our doors to walk out a little bit happier than they came in. Of course, that includes our guests… but it also includes our staff. We are very proud of our compensation packages, meticulously designed to improve quality of life for everyone on our team.

  • Competitive pay.

  • Free telehealth and mental health services!

  • Gift of beer to staff each month

  • Professional development opportunities, such as off-flavor/sensory analysis training and a twice-annual craft beverage education

  • Twice annual employee appreciation events

  • Annual reviews with potential for pay increases. We highly value our employees and work hard to help you grow. In addition to formal annual reviews, we meet with staff every 6 months to check-in and provide valuable feedback to help you grow in your profession and to get your feedback on how we can improve processes.
